The RICS' top level strategy is set by a Governing Council, chaired by the President, including RICS members from all world regions. In simple terms, it aims to map out how the RICS is to achieve its overall objective of being "the mark of property professionalism worldwide".

 

The trip to Beijing was history in the making for the RICS, as it was the first ever Governing Council meeting held outside Europe. China is now one of the fastest growing markets for the profession. The event achieved a significant breakthrough in the status of the profession and the RICS in China, culminating in formal agreements with the major government sponsored professional bodies covering land, real estate and construction. Given the long term significance of China as potentially the world's leading economic super power, some of the doors opened and relationships made in Beijing, will no doubt have relevance to the profession globally. It was clear that China will be looking to expand the use of building surveyors skills within their key cities.
